Danganronpa Togami Volume 1: Multiple Counts of Attempted World Domination
Chapter 1: Byakuya-sama is God

We didn't have time to despair.
The back alley was still shaking when an armored car burst into it. I stood to block the way, protecting Byakuya-sama as he sat calmly on the wooden box. I don't know how effective that gesture was, but either way, the car stopped about five meters in front of me.
The hatch at the top opened, and armed soldiers kept jumping out and out like it was a very green armored clown car, before finally, a disproportionately sweet-looking girl appeared from inside. Her skin was pale enough to show her veins. Her eyes made her look the highest of highest of high class. Her hair fluttered elegantly even in the turbulent wind. The future sovereign of the Kingdom of Novoselic. The Super High School Level Princess. Sonia Nevermind.
"Lend me your ears!" Princess Sonia stood beautifully on top of the armored car, pointing down at us. "I have found you, Togami-san. This was a piece of 'put your hands up' cake!"
"Hey, Princess Idiot, what was that crash just now?"
"What a question to ask, coming from the person who ordered it to... Oh my! You look like you walked straight out of Harenchi Gakuen!"[1] Princess Sonia hastily covered her eyes. "T-Togami-san, perhaps you have not noticed, but you are wearing nothing but your underwear!"
"This is a towel. It's not underwear, so there's no need to be embarrassed."
"Concealing your groin with a towel... You truly are a Japanese boy. Much like Ken Takakura.[2] It's raining blades again today![3]"
"Answer me already."
"I've received notice that one of the Togami Conglomerate's artificial satellites has crashed into an island somewhere in the Mediterranean."
"What a dreary choice of attack and target. If they wanted an island, they should have taken aim at Great Britain. They missed their chance to wipe those disgusting jellied eels off of the face of the Earth."
"Sonia-san, this is, uh, a misunderstanding," I explained hastily.
"Oh, my, if it isn't Blue Ink-san. Good day to you." Princess Sonia smiled, calling me by my codename the way she always did. "Might you be his accomplice?"
"Please, listen to me."
"I would like to say that there is nothing to argue here, but I do owe you some courtesy as a classmate. I have no objections. Please, speak."
"We fell into a trap."
"A trap? Whose?"
"We don't know yet, but they stole every last bit of Byakuya-sama's name and influence."
"They must be quite the master thief. Were they wearing a red jacket? Or a green one?"[4]
"The World Domination Proclamation was the impostor's doing, but the Byakuya-sama here is the real one. Even though you might be a little taken aback by his new perverted fashion sense, with just the glasses and a towel..."
"Why the hell did you think that was necessary to say?"
"I do not wish to doubt you, Blue Ink-san, but the voiceprint of the World Domination Proclamation is a perfect match with Togami-san's. Or do you think there is more than one Akira Ishida-san?"[5]
"You were certainly prepared to be able to confirm voiceprints, weren't you, Princess Idiot?"
"Prepared?"
"Why the hell didn't you come to the Church of Bones?"
"Huh?"
"Why didn't you attend the meeting for the Council of Global Controllers?"
"Well, that is. You see, here's the thing." Princess Sonia was conspicuously disorganized, touching her hair ribbon needlessly.
"Seeing as it was a highly confidential meeting that was attacked, suspicion falls on those with insider info. That being the case, you're the most suspicious of all, being 'late'. Now, answer me. What were you doing, and where?"
"A-Are you playing as an ace attorney, perchance?"[6]
"Try again with the right publisher this time."
"Um, well... Everybodyyyy, please take care of Togami-san now!" Princess Sonia: exit stage left.
Countless guns pointed in our direction. The murderous intent in the air skyrocketed. It was enough to make me choke.
We may have the special, larger-than-life qualities of Super High School Level Secretary and Super High School Level Heir, but neither of us is the action movie type. There was no doubt that we'd be Swiss cheese as soon as they pulled their triggers. The soldiers and armored car blocked escape in front of us. Behind us...
Behind us?
Do I hear an engine roaring? Is that a black Mercedes-Benz heading our way?
As the Mercedes continued at a terrifying speed, the back door opened, and a girl jumped out. Her red hair was the most noticeable thing about her, but she was big-breasted, too. "Iiiiiiit's..." And, just when I thought she was squatting down low—"Chow tiiiiiiime!" She leapt over Byakuya-sama and me to attack the soldiers head-on.
The soldiers were thrown into chaos by the sudden attack, and even though they were still aiming at us with the intent to shoot us down, the girl struck first, knocking them down one after another. Using an electric guitar, of all things.
Out of sheer habit, even though we really didn't have the time to spare, I put a finger to my temple.

CLASS\MUSICAL INSTRUMENT
TITLE "GIBSON EXPLORER (ELBOW CUT)"
A guitar used by Eric Clapton. First sold in 1958, it caused a stir with its novel look, with a bold cut at the end of the body. In the present day, it is a limited edition model sold only in custom shops. It costs ¥657,000, or roughly $5600 in USD.
At some point, the Mercedes had pulled up next to us. The driver rolled down the window. "Heyyy, rich kid! Need a lift?" I had no idea why, but the man driving the car looked like he was having the time of his life.
Beggars can't be choosers. We jumped in, and the car accelerated again. That was enough to get the soldiers to move out of the way. The Mercedes just barely scraped past the armored car, breaking out of the narrow alleyway.
I could hear Princess Sonia's voice among all the gunshots: "God damn it! You mother fucker!"

[1] Harenchi Gakuen - a classic erotic manga.
[2] Ken Takakura - an older Japanese actor who starred in many yakuza films.
[3] raining blades - this quote seems to be from Ryuji, also a yakuza film.
[4] red/green jacket - presumably a reference to Lupin III.
[5] Akira Ishida - Togami's voice actor in Japanese. This is getting super meta.
[6] Ace Attorney - probably needs no introduction, but it is another popular murder mystery video game series that is Dangan Ronpa's predecessor, made by an entirely different company. The Japanese title for the franchise is "Gyakuten Saiban", which is literally something like "turnabout trial", if you think that lends more meaning to it in context.

Also, I laughed to death when I saw Akira Ishida's name show up. In an instant, I knew that it was Togami's Japanese VA. Seriously, I am obsessed with Dangan Ronpa that I can easily remember the English and Japanese VAs that worked on it.
